Several methods can be used to build a pond. Below is an example of how to build a simple natural pond.
PLAN
Firstly the outline shape is formed on the ground using a hose pipe to get the correct shape. When this shape is agreed digging commences to form the basic shape.
Depths and shelves are decided by the use of the pond. Plan the different pond areas (bog area 20cm, shallow water area 50 cm, and deep water area 70cm).

EXCAVATE
Dig the hole and shape the different areas.
Remove all stones, roots and other sharp objects, cover with pond fleece or a 10 cm thick layer of sand.

Lay out the liner and spread over the pond area. When you fill the pond with water, the liner gradually begins to shape itself in the pond.

Form the edge of the pond cover with stone liner and gravel. In time this will create a natural blending with the garden

Now you can start planting. Use our planting baskets for this.

Now site the technical elements – pumps, filters and UVC(ultra violet clarifier) – where you want them and switch on.
Site the lighting, by placing lamps both in and out of the water.
Top up the remaining water and site the decorative items.
